Mission

Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of young people that live, work, and play in the Mission District and San Francisco by engaging and effectively leveraging the strengths and resources of the entire community.

Vision

Community Bridges Beacon is a safe and inviting place where parents, youth, community members and staff work together during the day, evening, and weekend hours year round, to develop practical and emotional supports and opportunities. These supports and opportunities are designed and created to empower and promote the positive development of the youth, families, and community that we serve.

Our Theory of Youth Development

We believe that:
• Young people are strong, intelligent, curious and talented in ways that are unique and individual.
• Young people can and do make valuable contributions to their communities and schools.

All young people, regardless of their background, need the same resources, support and opportunities:
- Safe places to live, learn and play
- Academic support
- Recreational and creative outlets
- Challenging activities that help them develop and master new skills
- Forums in which to express themselves and be listened to
- Caring adult mentors
- Meaningful relationships with their peers

Given the right opportunities and support level, all youth can realize their full potential and make meaningful contributions. Young people come to Community Bridges Beacon from throughout the Mission District and San Francisco to find supports and opportunities that help them grow and succeed.

St. John's Educational Thresholds Center (SJETC) is the lead agency for Community Bridges Beacon.
